Grow Your Business from the Inside Out

In my observation, most women entrepreneurs that I have coached, as well as most female students that I met while teaching at MBA programs, tend to wait to “play Big”.  Women more so than men often wait to be valued, recognized and invited before taking the next leap. And while there is value in going slow and steady, I noticed that women business owners often hold themselves back significantly.

When we begin our businesses there is a temptation to focus on “externals”, get the product, the team, the marketing plan in place, book the workspace and on and on. And of course, all of these are very important. However, when we slow down to look, there is a famous 80/20 rule that comes up. 80/20 rule says that 80% (or often more) of income/customers comes from 20% of effort. In other words becoming intentional and focused in our work becomes incredibly important.

80/20 rule applies very directly to working with “obstacles” to growth. Most clients that I see who want more income/clients often quote “external” obstacles as key reasons for lack of success. However, when we take a deeper look we inevitably find that at least 80% of obstacles (or more) are actually coming from within. Our old stories about money, time, competition, collaboration come forward and in many ways “run” our businesses for us. It is incredibly powerful to identify and shift these stories, as businesses tend to shift almost overnight. It is not a miracle; it is a natural consequence, for as we shift, our businesses, which are an extension of who we are, shift as well.

In many ways, most of us put our businesses on a very tight lease before we even book our first client. I invite you to take time and free your business to be as Big as it wants to be. Let your Business take YOU on the journey.
